09.05.2018 - The Provisional List of applications admitted and not admitted to the CEEC Individual 2017 Call has been published. Candidates who were not admitted are now given the opportunity to comment on the procedure at a prior hearing.
Candidates must indicate in the plataform Portal de Ciência e Tecnologia the reason the application should have been accepted. It is also possible to add documentation in support of the claim. After the communication of non-admissibility, the candidates have 10 working days (until 23h59 of 01 August 2019) to pronounce themselves on any administrative errors. At the end of this period, the arguments presented will be analysed by FCT, which will simultaneously communicate the final decision to all the candidates who submitted allegations.
19.03.2019 - After the application period, including their confirmation by R&D institutions, a total of 3 671 applications were received. 59,6% of candidates applied for Junior Researcher, 30,5% for Assistant Researcher, 9,5% for Principal Researcher and 0,4% for Coordinator Researcher.
07.03.2019 - Deadline for Association by host institution has been extended: 21 February to 08 March 2019 - 5 p.m. Lisbon time.

Important Dates

The Individual Call is aimed at PhD holders of any nationality or stateless with a background in any scientific area who wish to develop their scientific research or technological development activity in Portugal, integrated into R&D units funded by FCT.

Applicants should indicate the host institution where they will develop their research plan. The selected doctorates are directly hired by the identified host institution, through FCT funding.

The following reference levels are considered:

  1. Junior Researcher PhD holders with limited experience in post-doctoral research or without a scientific curriculum after their PhDs in the scientific area they are applying for.
  2. Assistant Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, with no requirement to demonstrate their scientific independence.
  3. Principal Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which he/she applies, demonstrating scientific independence over the past 3 years.
  4. Coordinating Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, holding the title of habilitated or aggregated, with a CV of elevated merit in the scientific area to which they are applying, showing scientific independence and with evidence of leadership in the scientific area to which they are applying.

The call is open from 17 January 2019 until 17:00 (Lisbon time) on 20 February 2019.

Applications are submitted electronically, in English, through the electronic platform to be made available in due course.
