Transnational Cooperation
Coordination and Support Actions
EU-India Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities - EqUIP
The EU-India Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities is a project funded
by EU FP7 (2014-2017). EqUIP is a partnership of 13 research councils,
coordinated by the The
Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), United Kingdom. The overall
aim of EqUIP is to develop the conditions for enhanced collaboration at both
research funders and researchers level between Europe and India in the Social
Sciences and Humanities. The EqUIP objectives are:
- To provide a more coherent overview of the current scope of collaborative
activity between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities;
- To develop best practice approaches and challenges for research
cooperation between Europe and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities;
- To facilitate the networking of existing projects and identify
opportunities and priorities for future research collaboration between Europe
and India in the Social Sciences and Humanities, which will in turn influence
policy documents and in particular future Horizon 2020 Work Programmes for
the Societal Challenges;
- To establish networks of pan-European and Indian researchers in the
social sciences and humanities conducting excellent research addressing
cutting edge research questions. The broader ambition of the Platform will be
to have provided the foundations for enhanced inter-agency cooperation
between research funding agencies in India and Europe in the social sciences
and humanities. By bringing together a significant corpus of high quality
national research funding agencies, the Platform will enable major advances
in scientific knowledge and build relationships. Encouraging transnational
research coordination and intensifying communication, it will pave the way
for national agencies to work together and achieve convergence, in both
research policy and research practice. The added European Commission funding
will increase the scope of cooperation and contribute to avoiding
fragmentation and duplication and help to bring together expertise from a
variety of areas.
