Sobre a unidade
Research and consultancy within CEHIDRO focuses on a series of areas related to hydraulics. The unit has a strong experimental tradition and overall has a good record of production of publications and PhD completions. Its range of international collaborators is substantial and it has strong industrial links. It works through four research groups specialising in Operation, Safety and Risk Management of Hydro Systems, Sanitary Engineering, Environment and Water Resources, and Fluvial and Maritime Systems.
In general, the level of international-level publication within each of the research groups of the unit is strong.

Links to industry and levels of industrial contract income are sound, with particularly good performances from Environment and Water Resources and Fluvial and Maritime Systems. Engagement in conference organisation is substantial.
There is a reasonably good sense of strategic research planning throughout the unit and evidence of collaboration between groups giving appropriate critical mass for research of high quality. There is good collaboration in the Environmental area with colleagues working in other disciplines. Some groups are still rather small if they are to achieve internationally significant research impact.
PhD completion is strong in Fluvial and Maritime Systems but less so in the other groups.

Comentários da unidade

CEHIDRO-Centro de Estudos de Hidrosistemas (CIVE-LVT-LISBOA-92) was evaluated as Very Good (period 2003-2006), with very good comments concerning international collaboration, strong industrial links and strategic research planning.
Nevertheless, in the second paragraph of the general comments it is referred “In, general, the level of international-level publication within each of the research groups of the unit is strong, with the exception of Sanitary Engineering”. The stateman is very difficult to understand, considering that the international per capita publication of the Sanitary Engineering Group (2003-2006) in international journals (ISI or ISI and SCOUPUS international journals) is indeed higher than the average per capita publication value in international journals corresponding to CEHIDRO, i.e, involving all the four research units.
Accordingly, we propose that the specific comment referring the sanitary engineering group, in the second paragraph of the general comments, should be deleted in the final evaluation report.
