Presentation of the Research Program about the work of the Alvaro Siza Vieira

Next Monday, April 8, the Auditorium of the Serralves Foundation in Porto will host the presentation session of the Integrated Research and Development Program on the work of architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. The session includes a speech by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, followed by a debate moderated by Helena Pereira (Foundation for Science and Technology) and Carles Muro (Serralves Foundation), and will be closed by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.

During the session, the Cooperation Protocol will be signed between the Foundation for Science and Technology, the Serralves Foundation and the Ministry of Culture for the creation of the Integrated Research and Development Program on the architectural work of Álvaro Siza Vieira, which aims to stimulate and support new multidisciplinary R&D projects, in multiple strands and disciplinary areas, from architectural design and its relationship with the arts to urbanism and the social sciences, as well as engineering and material sciences, exploiting the archives deposited by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira at the Serralves Foundation, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Canadian Centre for Architecture.

The new program includes two Calls for scientific research and technological development, to be held in 2019 and 2020, to support research projects on the work of Álvaro Siza Vieira in multiple areas, namely:
 

  1. Architectural projects and their relationship with the users of the spaces and their social environment;
  2. The integration and interrelationship of architectural works with their surroundings, the city, the landscape and the territory;
  3. The relationship between architecture and the arts, in particular drawing, sculpture, cinema and the applied arts;
  4. The materialization of architecture, including structures, technologies and materials and their relationship with performance and surrounding conditions.
