FCT has been a member of the ERA-CAPS network since 1 December 2011, an ERA-NET Project involving 19 funding agencies from 19 countries (UK, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Spain).

The goal of the ERA-CAPS network is to strengthen the scientific coordination and integration of research programs in plant science.

Plant science faces major challenges on a European and global scale due to increasing demand from a growing world population. To ensure food security, the world requires new ways to produce sufficient and adequate food in an environmentally sustainable way. The challenge for plant science is to further improve knowledge of plant biology and agronomy, to increase agricultural production and improve access to a greater diversity of safe and nutritious food on a global scale.

Calls Transnationals

The Calls for transnational research projects is one of the main objectives of the ERA-NETs, as a mechanism for validation of the cooperative effort between the various funding agencies. ERA-CAPS launched 2 joint transnational Calls in plant science, and FCT participated in both.
