FCT has been a member of theERA-CAPSnetwork since December 1, 2011, an ERA-NET project involving 19 funding agencies from 19 countries (United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, and Spain).

The objective of the ERA-CAPS network is to strengthen scientific coordination and the integration of research programs in plant science.

Plant science faces major challenges at European and global level due to increased demand from a growing world population. To ensure food security, the world needs new ways of producing sufficient and adequate food in an environmentally sustainable manner. The challenge for plant science is to further improve knowledge of plant biology and agronomy in order to increase agricultural production and improve access to a greater diversity of safe and nutritious food on a global scale.

Calls

Calls transnational research projects are one of the main objectives of ERA-NETs, as a mechanism for validating cooperative efforts between various funding agencies. ERA-CAPS launched two joint Calls in plant science, with FCT participating in both.
