FCT is a member of ERA-NET PLUS NEWA - New European Wind Atlas, a network of 9 partners from 8 countries. NEWA should have a direct impact on the development of new wind energy technologies, through the publication of a European Wind Atlas, which it should promote:

• Reducing the cost of electricity generated from wind sources by mitigating the risks associated with the design and operation of large-scale wind turbines, through better knowledge of wind conditions;
• Better quantification of Europe's wind potential and the production of data and models to improve spatial planning tools and operations, promoting efficiency in the implementation of wind farms.
