On February 11, 2019, an agreement was signed between FCT and the Consortium for the Construction, Equipping, and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Source (CELLS), with the aim of establishing a framework for collaboration between the parties, in the spirit of improving scientific and technical exchange, developing joint projects, and facilitating access to scientific instrumentation in institutions considered by both scientific communities.
CELLS is a public consortium established by an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Autonomous Region of Catalonia in 2003, whose purpose is the construction, equipping, and subsequent operation of a Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (ALBA), carrying out its activities in the field of synchrotron production and scientific use.
This agreement defines the conditions for collaboration and possible initiatives, such as:
- Competitive access for national researchers to the laboratory under the same conditions as Spanish researchers;
- Portugal's participation as an observer in the ALBA Scientific and Advisory Committee (ALBA SAC), through the appointment of a Portuguese scientist of recognized merit;
- Creation of a joint postdoctoral program.
