Founded in 2011 and based in Brussels, Science Europe currently represents more than 40 organizations from 30 countries, covering a wide range of national science systems. The association aims to act as an institutional voice for European science, promoting dialogue between its members, European Union institutions, and other stakeholders in the global research ecosystem.

Science Europe's main areas of activity include:

  • Promotion of open science and free access to scientific knowledge
  • Strengthening integrity and quality in research
  • Definition of common principles for scientific evaluation
  • Strategic alignment of financing policies and infrastructure
  • Promoting interdisciplinarity and the societal impact of science

The FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology has been a member of Science Europe since its creation, actively participating in various thematic working groups and contributing to the development of common positions on the main challenges facing science in Europe.
