1,350 Studentships awarded in the 2019 Call
The Foundation for Science and Technology today announced the results of Call the Award of Studentships 2019, under which 1,350 Studentships will be awarded Studentships all scientific areas, from among 3,333 individual applications evaluated.
The Studentships awarded are intended for the development of research and development work plans associated with obtaining a doctoral degree through doctoral programs at Portuguese or foreign universities.
The applications were evaluated by 36 scientific panels, which ranked the applications and serialized them within the panel. After this classification and ranking, Call Scientific Coordination team Call the cut-off points for each panel, taking into account the respective demand and scientific policy guidelines for Portugal in the European context ("Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in Portugal – Perspectives for 2030").
Starting today, candidates have access to the comments justifying the rating assigned to their application and have up to 10 business days to present any arguments to the evaluation panel at a preliminary hearing of interested parties.
Analysis of the results now released shows that:
- 77% of Studentships relate to work plans carried out entirely in Portugal;
- 18% refer to Studentships , with work plans to be carried out partially abroad; and
- 5% refer to work plans carried out entirely abroad.
Women accounted for 59% of the selected candidates and men for 41%. Of the selected candidates, 89% are Portuguese nationals. In total, Studentships were awarded Studentships candidates from 32 countries, including Portugal. Among foreign candidates (11% of the total), those of Brazilian nationality (62 Studentships), Italian nationality (26 Studentships), Iranian nationality (10 Studentships), and Spanish nationality (8 Studentships) stood out.
The Studentships in this Call to the approximately 250 Studentships in FCT-funded doctoral programs still in progress, as well as Studentships in other areas, such as partnerships or specific programs.
The next Call Studentships will open in 2020. As with the last two Calls, the application period will run during the first quarter of the year, so that the results are available before the start of the academic year.
