25 years of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education

(Onlly Available in English)

The current Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) is celebrating 25 years of existence and the anniversary has been marked with several initiatives aimed at the general public, such as debates, concerts, exhibitions and the publication of several books. The program also includes the recent launch of the "Science & Knowledge Collection", in partnership with the Público newspaper and the publisher A Bela e o Monstro.

The "Science & Knowledge Collection" re-edits the first editions of eight works that are relevant to the promotion of scientific culture, and is curated by the bookseller and anthropologist, Luís Gomes, with a preface by the teacher and researcher Fernando Carvalho Rodrigues. In a more in-depth way, the reader is introduced to the works of Charles Darwin, Pedro Nunes, Erwin Schrödinger, Antero de Quental, Garcia de Orta, Almeida Garrett, Jules Verne, and Mário António da Cunha Moura. The works are being published in detachable format in the Thursday editions of the Público newspaper between September 17 and November 5.

Remember that the MCTES was created in 1995, at the time called Ministry of Science and Technology and led by José Mariano Gago, with the main objective of promoting the development of scientific and research work in the country. Since its creation in 1997, the FCT has been under this ministry.
