30 years since the National Scientific and Technological Research Days
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), in collaboration with the Ciência Viva Agency, is holding a conference on May 11 at the Picoas Forum entitled "On the Future of Science in Portugal, 30 years after the 1987 May Days".
The initiative, which will be attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa, the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and also the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Education and Science, Alexandre Quintanilha, is intended to be an event for reflection on the main challenges and opportunities for the future of science in Portugal.
The conference will mark the 30th anniversary of the National Scientific and Technological Research Days, which took place at the Picoas Forum from May 11 to 15, 1987, and which led to the formulation of the first Science and Technology Mobilization Program for Portugal.
The event will be followed by the "National Scientists' Day" celebrations, which will take place with a meeting on May 16 at the Rivoli Theater in Porto, as part of the "Paths of Knowledge" conference cycle.
