8th edition of the Portuguese Initiative of the Internet Governance Forum
The University of Beira Interior will host the 8th edition of the Portuguese Initiative of the Internet Governance Forum on November 13 (Wednesday). This year's theme is "Regaining trust in the Internet." The event is open to the general public, takes place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., but requires prior registration.
This event has been held in Portugal since 2010, with the aim of analyzing and sharing different ideas on how the Internet, a global resource, should be managed and used, involving the participation of public and private stakeholders, academia, the Internet technical community, and society in general. Internet governance involves a multitude of public policies and technical issues, covering different standards and principles relating to various relevant topics, including freedom of expression on the Internet, privacy, security, digital skills, and emerging technologies.
In this edition, the program will consist of several sessions aimed at discussing topics such as cooperation in digital public policies in the national and global context and the challenges of Internet development; decentralized technologies, including Blockchain, their impact, supervision, and contribution to active democracy; illegal content on the Internet and its regulation; and cyberspace and the growing relevance of user attitudes and behavior, in both professional and personal contexts, to cybersecurity. The program will feature António Fidalgo, Rector of the University of Beira Interior, and Nuno Rodrigues, member of the Board of Directors of FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology, and a group of more than 20 guest speakers, experts in the numerous topics under discussion.
The event is organized by FCT, in partnership with ANACOM (National Communications Authority), APDSI (Association for the Promotion and Development of the Information Society), the DNS.PT Association, CNCS (National Cybersecurity Center), IAPMEI (Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation), Polo TICE.PT, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the University of Beira Interior.
