2nd Call for projects in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration opened
The 2nd edition of the Call for Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration. The initiative aims to support the development of partnerships between the public administration and R&D institutions so that, together, they can build new ways of processing public data to produce knowledge relevant to society, using advanced artificial intelligence and data science techniques.
This is the second of three annual Calls with a total budget of €10 million. The Notice of the Call is available here and applications will be submitted from March 1 to April 16. This action is part of Axis 5 - Research of the National Digital Competences Initiative e.2030 (Portugal INCoDe.2030).
The Call aims to encourage the use of computing techniques and artificial intelligence to use the administrative data that the Public Administration collects every year to provide services to citizens. Although this data supports the purpose for which it is requested, its value goes far beyond that use. When processed, this data has the potential to inform decision-making, optimize resources, improve public policies and ultimately contribute to improving people's lives.
Advances in computing techniques and artificial intelligence make it possible to analyze different sets of micro-data in increasingly complex ways, combining them to extract knowledge that was previously inaccessible. The scientific community is thus becoming essential to developing a public administration model based on advanced analysis methods that allow the full potential of existing data to be harnessed.
In October 2018, the final results of the 1st Call for Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration were released. The Call made it possible to support 15 projects developed in partnership between R&D Units and Public Administration entities, on topics such as health, public transport, water management or the use of data from the European Space Agency's IPSentinel system.
