Announcement of the winners of the 2018 Arquivo.pt Awards

The 2018 Arquivo.pt Awards were announced at "Ciência 2018 – Encontro com a Ciência e Tecnologia" (Science 2018 – Meeting with Science and Technology), which is taking place from July 2 to 4 at the Lisbon Congress Center.

The first prize, worth €10,000, was awarded to the project “Conta-me Histórias” (Tell Me Stories), led by Ricardo Campos. The second prize, worth €3,000, was awarded to the work "Enquadramento do conceito de 'homossexualidade' em 20 anos de publicação do Jornal Expresso: um estudo misto (quantitativo e qualitativo)" (Framing the concept of 'homosexuality' in 20 years of publication of the Expresso newspaper: a mixed study (quantitative and qualitative)), by João Teixeira Duarte. The third prize, worth €2,000, was awarded to the work "Arquivo de Opinião" (Opinion Archive), by Miguel Won. In this first edition of the Arquivo.pt Awards, works were received in areas such as technology, social sciences, and humanities.

The awards were presented by the European Commissioner for Research, Science, and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, the Minister of the Presidency and Administrative Modernization, Maria Leitão Marques, and the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, during the plenary session "New frontiers of the digital age in Europe and the world."

These awards are given by FCT with the aim of highlighting original and innovative works that use the thousands of pages available on Arquivo.pt as a source, and that highlight the importance of preserving information published on the Internet.
