Atlantic Interactions Initiative holds meeting on Terceira Island

Terceira Island (Azores) will host, on April 20 and 21, a high-level meeting to promote North-South/South-North dialogue, in order to ensure an integrated approach to all subjects related to space, oceans, climate, and data management. The meeting will be attended by more than 30 international delegations, involving more than 200 participants.

In 2016, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education (MCTES, in Portuguese) and FCT started a series of international workshops that took place in New York, Ponta Delgada (Azores), Lisbon, Paris, Brussels, and Brazil, among other places, to work on defining an R&D agenda for the Atlantic and creating the AIR Center – Atlantic International Research Center.

AIR Center aims to be an international cooperation platform dedicated to R&D in the areas of Space, Oceans, Climate, and Energy, and to promote networked research, supported by infrastructures and initiatives that will make it possible to attract foreign investment.

This meeting, which will take place on Terceira Island, will involve dialogue between governments, industry, and science. It will be attended by government and company representatives from a number of countries, such as: South Africa, Germany, Angola, Argentina, Bulgaria, Brazil, China, Colombia, South Korea, Spain, United States of America, Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, India, Ireland, Italy, Nigeria, Norway, United Kingdom, Romania, Senegal, Sweden, and Uruguay, among others. The European Commission, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the United Nations (UN) will also be represented.
