Safe Internet Center celebrates 10 years of activity
On February 6, more than 130 countries celebrate Safer Internet Day 2018, which this year has as its central theme "Create and share responsibly: a better internet starts with you." Portugal is joining in the celebrations with an event open to the public in Braga, which also marks the 10th anniversary of the Safe Internet Center (CIS).
The event will be attended by various experts, social actors, and partners from the Safe Internet Center Consortium (CIS), coordinated by FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, which also includes DGE – Directorate-General for Education of the Ministry of Education, IPDJ – Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth, Fundação PT, and Microsoft Portugal.
During the morning, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Institute of Education of the University of Minho – Gualter Campus, the work carried out by the Center in terms of prevention, awareness, and counseling, as well as in resolving problems/issues presented by citizens, will be presented. The CIS began operating in January 2007 and currently has two helplines: the Safe Internet Line and the Alert Line. It is also possible to contact the Center via an online form.
Topics such as the impact of ubiquitous access to the digital world, with Wi-Fi connections available in different locations and spaces, will also be discussed. How can we contribute to a better internet and responsible use and sharing? Where is our data stored? What impact do apps such as GamerDating have on our relationships? These are just some of the questions that will be addressed.
The IPDJ auditorium in Braga will host the second part of the event, aimed at younger audiences, starting at 2:15 p.m. The initiative will feature comedian Guilherme Geirinhas and the presentation of the play "ID, A tua Marca na NET 2.0" (ID, Your Mark on the Internet 2.0) by actors Pedro Górgia, Alexandre da Silva, and Tiago Aldeia.
As part of the celebrations, there was also a competition for young people aged between 13 and 30, which consisted of creating original photographs with the Safe Internet Line poster "Accept the Challenge!" The winners will be announced during the afternoon of the event on February 6.
The event is organized by the CIS Consortium, which includes FCT, DGE – Directorate-General for Education of the Ministry of Education, IPDJ – Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, Fundação PT, and Microsoft Portugal.
