Safe Internet Center celebrates 10 years of activity
More than 130 countries are celebrating Safer Internet Day 2018 on February 6, with the central theme this year being "Create and share responsibly: a better internet starts with you". Portugal is joining the celebrations with an event open to the public in Braga, which also marks 10 years of activity by the Safer Internet Center (CIS).
The event will be attended by different experts, social actors and the partners of the Safe Internet Center Consortium (CIS), coordinated by the FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology and which also includes the DGE - General Directorate of Education of the Ministry of Education, the IPDJ - Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, the PT Foundation and Microsoft Portugal.
During the morning, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Institute of Education of the University of Minho - Gualter Campus, the work carried out by the Center will be presented from the point of view of prevention, awareness and advice, as well as solving problems/issues presented by citizens. The CIS began operating in January 2007 and currently has two helplines: the Safe Internet Line and the Alert Line, which can also be contacted via an online form.
Also up for debate will be topics such as the impact of access to the digital world everywhere, with wifi connections being made available at different points and in different spaces. How can we contribute to a better internet and responsible use and sharing? Where is our data stored? What impact do apps like GamerDating have on our relationships? - are still some of the questions in focus.
The IPDJ auditorium in Braga, starting at 2:15 p.m., will host the second part of the event aimed at young people. The initiative will feature the participation of comedian Guilherme Geirinhas and the presentation of the play "ID, A tua Marca na NET 2.0" by actors Pedro Górgia, Alexandre da Silva and Tiago Aldeia.
As part of the celebrations, there was also a competition for all young people between the ages of 13 and 30, which consisted of creating original photographs with the "Accept the Challenge!" Safe Internet Line poster. The winners will be announced in the afternoon at the event on February 6th.
The event is organized by the CIS Consortium, which includes the FCT, the DGE - Directorate General for Education of the Ministry of Education, the IPDJ - Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth, the PT Foundation and Microsoft Portugal.
