Science 2019 - Meeting with Science and Technology in Portugal
From July 8 to 10, another edition of Science 2019 - Meeting with Science and Technology in Portugal will be held at the Lisbon Congress Center. This year's guest country is the United Kingdom.
The event seeks to bring together the Portuguese scientific community around a multidisciplinary program that addresses current scientific and societal challenges, based on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. This year is particularly marked by numerous scientific celebrations - the International Year of the Periodic Table, 100 years since Eddington's expedition to S. Tomé and Príncipe, 100 years since the discovery of the European Ocean. Tomé and Príncipe, 100 years of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), 50 years since man first landed on the moon, 500 years since Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation voyage - R&D units and their researchers are therefore challenged to take part in Ciência 2019, a meeting that aims to highlight the need to deepen research and innovation and strengthen dialogue and communication about the knowledge developed in the country.
The various challenges facing the scientific agenda is another of the topics being debated at the meeting, with the aim of encouraging interaction between researchers, the business sector and the general public. In addition to the various papers, the event also features a space for demonstrating R&D activities and an exhibition of digital posters by doctoral students with FCT grants on the ongoing activities and/or recent results of their research.
Encontro Ciência 2019 is promoted by the FCT in collaboration with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture Ciência Viva and the Parliamentary Commission for Education and Science, and has the institutional support of the Government, through the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education.
Registration for the event is now open at www.encontrociencia.pt.
