Science 2019 – Encounter with Science and Technology in Portugal
From July 8 to 10, another edition of Ciência 2019 – Encontro com a Ciência e Tecnologia em Portugal(Science 2019 – Meeting with Science and Technology in Portugal) will be held at the Lisbon Congress Center. This year, the guest country is the United Kingdom.

The event seeks to bring together the Portuguese scientific community around a multidisciplinary program that addresses current scientific and societal challenges, based on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. This year is particularly marked by numerous scientific celebrations—the International Year of the Periodic Table, 100 years since Eddington's expedition to São Tomé and Príncipe, 100 years of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), 50 years since the first manned moon landing, 500 years of Fernão de Magalhães' circumnavigation voyage – which is why R&D Units and their researchers are challenged to participate in Science 2019, a meeting that aims to highlight the need to deepen research and innovation and to strengthen dialogue and communication about the knowledge developed in the country.

The various challenges of the scientific agenda is another topic under discussion at the Meeting, with the aim of encouraging interaction between researchers, the business sector, and the general public. In addition to the various presentations, the event also features a space for demonstrations of R&D activities and an exhibition of digital posters by FCT scholarship doctoral students on their ongoing activities and/or recent research results.
The 2019 Science Meeting is promoted by FCT in collaboration with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture Ciência Viva and the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, with institutional support from the Government, through the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education.
Registration to participate in the event is now open at www.encontrociencia.pt.
