Five new Collaborative Laboratories (CoLAB)
Today sees the public presentation of the five new CoLABs approved in the 3rd evaluation of applications for the Call to award the title and designation of Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB), submitted until January 2019. The session will take place at 3pm in the auditorium of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission in Porto.
The new CoLABs are the CSESI Hub CoLAB, the VG CoLAB, the InovFeed CoLAB, the BUILT CoLAB and the FOODLAB CoLAB and add to the list of 21 existing CoLABs. Funding for all 26 CoLABs totals more than 69 million euros, 57 million of which will go towards hiring more than 600 highly qualified human resources (bachelors, masters and PhDs) by 2021.
The new CoLABs have 90 days after the decision to award the title to set themselves up as private non-profit associations or companies. Promoting collaboration between science, technology and higher education institutions and the economic and social fabric, namely companies, the hospital and health system, cultural institutions and social organizations. CoLABs aim to directly and indirectly create high value-added jobs in Portugal by implementing research and innovation agendas geared towards creating economic and social value.
