Call projects for Forest Fire Research 2018
Applications for the second edition of Call Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in the field of Forest Fire Prevention and Control are open until February 26. The Call for up to €300,000 to be awarded per project, with a total budget of €5 million.
This Call part of the Mobilizing R&D Program for the prevention and fight against forest fires, created by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 159/2017, following the recommendations of the report by the Independent Technical Commission that investigated the Pedrógão Grande fires. A total of €15 million in funding is expected for research projects selected under the three Calls for proposals.
By supporting these projects, the aim is to promote scientific research and innovation, strengthening scientific and technical skills and capabilities, ensuring the appropriation and incorporation of scientific knowledge in decision support in operational systems, as well as the production of new knowledge geared towards problem solving. The research topics are varied and may include forest resource management and fire prevention, firefighting, the health and safety of firefighters, meteorology, forecasting and risk management, including communication systems, and biomass valorization, among others.
