Call for projects for Forest Fire Research 2018

Applications for the second edition of the Call for Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in the field of Forest Fire Prevention and Combat are open until February 26. The Call provides for up to 300,000 euros per project and has a total financial envelope of 5 million euros.

This Call is part of the R&D Mobilizer Program for preventing and fighting forest fires, created by Council of Ministers Resolution no. 159/2017, following the recommendations of the report by the Independent Technical Commission that investigated the Pedrógão Grande fires. Total funding of 15 million euros is planned for research projects selected under the three annual Calls .

Support for these projects is intended to promote scientific research and innovation, strengthening scientific and technical skills and capabilities, ensuring the appropriation and incorporation of scientific knowledge into decision support in operational systems, as well as the production of new knowledge aimed at solving problems. Research topics are varied, and may include forest resource management and fire prevention, firefighting, the health and safety of firefighting technicians, and meteorology, forecasting and risk management, including communication systems, and the valorization of biomass, among others.
