Documentation for the Call for PhD Studentships 2017 released
The Foundation for Science and Technology has today published the documents relating to the Call for PhD Studentships 2017. The application period will run from March 1 to 31, and 900 PhD Studentships are expected to be awarded.
The aim of bringing the Call forward to March is to allow applicants to be aware of the results of the Call before the start of the academic year, so that they can better plan their research. The FCT wants the Call for PhD Studentships to be opened in the first quarter of the year.
Doctoral Studentships are a subsidy awarded to researchers in training to carry out scientific and technological activities on an exclusive basis, with a view to obtaining a doctoral degree. Research carried out by doctoral researchers, in line with Decree-Law 57/2016, must be contracted out as the normal relationship, which is why the award of post-doctoral Studentships is not envisaged in this Call. Hiring PhDs is a priority for FCT and will be reflected in the Call for Projects in all scientific fields, whose notice should be published by March, in the implementation of Decree-Law 57/2016, under which it is planned to open another thousand Calls PhDs to be funded by FCT, and in other scientific employment opportunities that FCT will promote in 2017.
