ESA is looking for astronaut candidates

The sky's the limit. If you've always dreamed of becoming an astronaut, the ESA can make it a reality. The European Space Agency recently opened a Call for applications to select the next generation of astronauts. Applications can be made on the ESA website until May 28.

The last selection was in 2009 and brought together six astronauts. Among them was Thomas Pesquet, a French astronaut born in 1978, who appeals to the interest of candidates and reminds them that "one in a million" could be lucky enough to go into space.

For more information on this process, ESA is hosting a webinar on Thursday, April 22, entitled "ESA Astronauts Career Fair". This session aims to provide more information about the ESA astronaut selection process. We'll learn how the recruitment of an astronaut works, find out details about the training of these professionals and also learn about the projects that ESA has for the future, on the Moon, Mars and beyond. Registration is compulsory.

Portugal has been a member of the European Space Agency since November 14, 2000. It has been promoting the participation of national companies and R&D institutes in ESA's space programs for over 20 years, including the programs implemented under the ESA-European Union Framework Agreement.
