ESA is looking for astronaut candidates

The sky's the limit. If you've always dreamed of becoming an astronaut, ESA can make that dream come true. The European Space Agency recently opened Call applications to select the next generation of astronauts. Applications can be submitted on the ESA website until May 28.

The last selection was in 2009 and brought together six astronauts. Among them was Thomas Pesquet, a French astronaut born in 1978, who appeals to candidates' interest and reminds them that "one in a million" may be lucky enough to go into space.

For more information on this process, ESA is hosting a webinar on Thursday, April 22, called the "ESA Astronauts Career Fair." This session aims to provide more information about ESA's astronaut selection process. We will learn how astronaut recruitment works, find out details about the training these professionals undergo, and also learn about ESA's plans for the future, on the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Registration is mandatory.

Portugal has been a member of the European Space Agency since November 14, 2000. For more than 20 years, it has been promoting the participation of national companies and R&D institutes in ESA space programs, including those implemented under the ESA-European Union Framework Agreement.
