Portugal's presence in European programs compared to 2014-2020, and to attract around €2 billion in European Union funding in the areas of Research and Innovation during that period, as well as to triple the number of students participating in higher education mobility programs.
This document was prepared through the PERIN network, which involves institutional partners such as the Foundation for Science and Technology, I. P. (FCT), the National Innovation Agency (ANI), S.A., the Portuguese Space Agency (PT Space), the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB), the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), and the National Agency Erasmus+ Education and Training. Its mission is to strengthen and double Portugal's participation in the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework and to promote the use of structural funds as national counterpart funding in all instruments that provide for co-financing.
Given that in the period 2021-2027 we will have the opportunity to rely on different European funding programs in the areas of Research & Innovation, Erasmus, Space, and Digital, which can be complementary to each other, namely "Horizon Europe," Erasmus+, the European Space Program, the European Digital Program, and the Connecting Europe Facility 2 – Digital (CEF2-Digital), it is therefore appropriate to discuss the lessons for the future, as we are now experiencing a new framework for thinking about Portugal's evolution in the European context.
The PERIN network will be able to leverage, through its institutional partners, the national network of offices promoting Portugal's participation in European funding programs, as well as the network of delegates/NCPs that has now been extended for the next seven years, the participation of research and business institutions in those European funding programs in a more coherent and complementary manner.
