Death of Engineer Armando Trigo de Abreu

The FCT mourns the passing of Armando Trigo de Abreu, former President of the Institute for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation, from which the FCT's Department of International Relations and Office for the Promotion of the R&D Framework Program originated.
Trigo de Abreu was chief of staff to the Minister of Science José Mariano Gago from 2005 to 2009, and chairman of the executive committee of the National Scientific and Technological Research Conference organized by the predecessor of the FCT, the National Board for Scientific Research (JNICT), in 1987—when the Science and Technology Mobilization Program, designed to support research projects, was formalized.
He also collaborated with JNICT as a member of the Research and Development Program Evaluation Panel. He was a graduate research assistant, assistant researcher, and researcher at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC) from 1966 to 1986, and a member of the Board of Directors of that institution from 1978 to 1980. He also held the position of visiting assistant professor at ISCTE — Lisbon University Institute, starting in 1986.
At this institution, he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for African Studies between 1983 and 1984 and then from 1986 to 1995. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of this Center from 1995 to 1996. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends for this immeasurable loss.
