FCT has opened the 5th edition of the Call Encourage Individual Scientific Employment

The application period for the 5th edition of the Call to Encourage Individual Scientific Employment (CEEC Individual), run by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), starts today, February 3, and runs until 17:00 (Lisbon time) on March 3, 2022. Another 400 PhD researchers are expected to be hired under the Scientific Employment Regulation (REC), and the Call is aimed at PhDs of any nationality or stateless persons with a background in any scientific area.

The CEEC Individual is an annual Call that directly supports the hiring of PhD researchers in all scientific areas who wish to carry out their scientific research or technological development activities in Portugal, at institutions that are part of the National Science and Technology System (SNCT). In this Call , candidates previously identify in their application the host institution where they will develop their research plan and, those who are selected, are directly hired by that institution through FCT funding.

CEEC Individual contracts last up to 6 years and are awarded according to four categories:

- Junior researcher (those with a doctorate for 5 years or less, with little post-doctoral research experience in the scientific area to which they are applying);

- Assistant researcher (PhD holders for more than 5 years and less than 12 years, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying and with limited scientific independence);

- Principal researcher (PhD holders for more than 12 years, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, demonstrating some scientific independence in the last 3 years);

- Coordinating researcher (PhD holders in Portugal, with a curriculum vitae of high merit in the scientific area to which they are applying, demonstrating scientific independence and evidence of leadership in that scientific area).

In the four editions already concluded, through the CEEC Individual, FCT has already awarded a total of 1,500 contracts to doctoral researchers, which will rise to 1,900 after the conclusion of this new Call .
