FCT awards 1,366 Studentships in Call 2019 Call
The FCT has announced the final results of Call the Award of Studentships 2019 in all scientific areas. A total of 1,366 Studentships were awarded, corresponding to a success rate of 41% of all applicants.
Of the selected candidates, 59% are women and 11% are foreign nationals. Studentships were awarded Studentships candidates from 32 foreign countries, with the largest number of candidates coming from Brazil, followed by Italy.
Scholarship recipients will participate in doctoral programs at Portuguese or foreign universities, distributed across more than 80 degree-granting institutions. Of the total number of Studentships , 77% are for work plans carried out entirely in Portugal, 18% are Studentships with work plans to be carried out partly abroad, and 5% are for work plans carried out entirely abroad.
The applications were reviewed by 36 scientific panels, using three evaluation criteria: i) candidate merit; ii) work plan merit; and iii) host conditions merit. A total of 365 national experts from the scientific and academic community participated in this evaluation, 53% of whom were women and affiliated with more than 20 institutions.
The FCT will now contract Studentships start dates between September 1, 2019, and August 1, 2020. Payments will begin in December, and students who have already started their work plan will receive their Studentships retroactive payments.
In 2019, FCT estimates that it will award 1,600 Studentships , including Studentships Call Studentships under Calls doctoral programs, which corresponds to a 16% increase compared to 2018.
The next Call the Award of Studentships in all scientific areas will be announced at the end of 2019. As in the last three Calls, the application period will run during the first quarter of 2020, so that the results are available by the summer.
