FCT and DGES launch special support 'Summer with Science

FCT in collaboration with the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES) is launching the special support "Summer with Science", for which applications are open until 5pm (Lisbon time) on June 26th, 2020.

This support aims to finance Studentships and training plans, seeking to encourage on-site activities of students, teachers and researchers, within the scope of the development of innovative solutions associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (PEES), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking into account the enhancement of scientific, technological and academic capacity existing in Portugal and its relationship with society, this support is intended to contribute to the process of economic and social stabilization through higher qualification.

The "Summer with Science" intends to stimulate the development of "Summer Schools" in Polytechnics and Universities in the country with integrated initiatives of R&D and higher education, exclusively on-site, through :

- New FCT support, for Studentships of R&D for on-site training and research activities in Polytechnics and Universities, of students and young people in close articulation with R&D units and with the possibility of internships in public or private institutions;

- Extension by the DGES, in the form of aid, of the Studentships school social action, active in 2019/20, for on-site training and research activities of grant recipients in Polytechnics and Universities, in close articulation with R&D units and/or with the possibility of internships in public or private institutions.

The proposals may consist of "Summer Schools" in all areas of knowledge, in articulation with public and private institutions, and must be of quick realization, with a 3-month development time horizon.

This support is intended for students and young people who qualify for a research initiation or research scholarship (articles 5 and 6 of the FCT's Regulation of Studentships ) as well as students with a school social action scholarship; and for higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, or business entities in partnership with research institutions.
