FCT and DGES launch special 'Summer with Science' support

The FCT, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES), is launching special support for "Summer with Science", for which applications are open until 5 p.m. (Lisbon time) on June 26, 2020.

This support aims to fund Studentships and training plans, seeking to encourage face-to-face activities by students, teachers and researchers, as part of the development of innovative solutions associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Programme (PEES), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bearing in mind the value of the scientific, technological and academic capacity that exists in Portugal and its relationship with society, the aim of this support is to contribute to the process of economic and social stabilization through higher qualifications.

Summer with Science" aims to stimulate the development of "Summer Schools" in Polytechnics and Universities across the country with integrated R&D and higher education initiatives, exclusively in person, through :

- New support from the FCT for R&D Studentships for face-to-face training and research activities in Polytechnics and Universities, for students and young people in close coordination with R&D units and with the possibility of internships in public or private institutions;

- Extension by DGES, in the form of aid, of the School Social Action Studentships , active in 2019/20, for on-site training and research activities of scholarship holders at Polytechnics and Universities, in close articulation with R&D units and/or with the possibility of internships at public or private institutions.

Proposals can consist of "Summer Schools" in all areas of knowledge, in conjunction with public and private institutions, and must be implemented quickly, with a 3-month development time horizon.

This support is aimed at students and young people who meet the conditions to be research initiation or research fellows (articles 5 and 6 of the FCT's Studentships Regulations), as well as students on school social action grants; and higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, or business entities in partnership with research institutions.
