FCT and DGES launch special support program ‘Summer with Science’
The FCT, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), is launching a special support program called "Summer with Science," for which applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on June 26, 2020.
This support aims to finance Studentships training plans, seeking to encourage face-to-face activities for students, teachers, and researchers, within the scope of developing innovative solutions associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (PEES), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking into account the enhancement of Portugal's scientific, technological, and academic capacity and its relationship with society, this support aims to contribute to the process of economic and social stabilization through higher education.
"Summer with Science" aims to encourage the development of "Summer Schools" at polytechnics and universities across the country with integrated R&D and higher education initiatives, exclusively in person, through:
– New FCT support for Studentships for face-to-face training and research activities at polytechnics and universities, for students and young people in close collaboration with R&D units and with the possibility of internships in public or private institutions;
– Extension by DGES, in the form of aid, of Studentships social action in schools, active in 2019/20, for face-to-face training and research activities for scholarship holders at polytechnics and universities, in close coordination with R&D units and/or with the possibility of internships in public or private institutions.
Proposals may consist of "Summer Schools" in all areas of knowledge, in conjunction with public and private institutions, and should be quickly implemented, with a development timeframe of three months.
This support is intended for students and young people who meet the conditions to be research initiation or research fellows (Articles 5 and 6 of Studentships Regulation), as well as students receiving school social action scholarships; and to higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, or business entities in partnership with research institutions.
