FCT launches initiative to fund 24 Studentships in Quantum Science and Technology.
This Friday, February 15, at 4:30 p.m., FCT will present the Quantum Portugal Initiative at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga. This initiative aims to train new researchers in an area with great potential for solving highly complex issues in science and business: Quantum Computing.
Quantum computing exploits the properties of quantum physics to develop new forms of information processing. Applications could have an impact in areas as diverse as the creation of new medicines and materials, the simulation of the spread of pandemics, financial risk analysis, and inventory management and supply chain optimization, facial recognition, or even artificial intelligence.
Quantum science and technology will be extremely important for Europe's digitization and development and require the gathering of critical mass and the training of highly qualified human resources in this area. The demand for specialists with know-how and the ability to understand quantum technologies is growing rapidly. Researchers and engineers from academia are currently being recruited by companies offering a range of career opportunities for those with experience in this field.
In this context, FCT will promote a Call the award of 24 Studentships in the field of Quantum Science and Technology. This Call managed by the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, under a Memorandum of Understanding that will be signed at the launch of the Initiative, which takes place this Friday. The INL will serve as a host institution for doctoral students from universities across the country, who will thus be able to use its facilities and expertise.
