FCT launches initiative to fund 24 PhD Studentships in Quantum Science and Technology.
This Friday, February 15, at 4:30 p.m., FCT will present the Quantum Portugal Initiative at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga. This initiative aims to train new researchers in an area with great potential for solving highly complex issues in science and business: Quantum Computing.
Quantum computing exploits the properties of quantum physics to develop new ways of processing information. Applications can have an impact in areas as diverse as the creation of new medicines and materials, the simulation of the spread of pandemics, financial risk analysis, and the development of new technologies. stock management and supply chain optimization, facial recognition or even artificial intelligence.
Quantum science and technology will be extremely important for the digitalization of Europe and its development and require the gathering of critical mass and the training of highly qualified human resources in this area. The demand for specialists with the know-how and ability to understand quantum technologies is growing rapidly. Researchers and engineers from academia are currently being hired by companies that offer various career opportunities for those with experience in the field.
In this context, FCT will promote a Call for 24 PhD Studentships in the field of Quantum Science and Technology. This Call will be managed by INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology LaboratoryThe INL will be set up as part of a Memorandum of Understanding that will be signed at the launch of the Initiative, which takes place this Friday. INL will act as a host institution for doctoral students from universities across the country, who will be able to use its facilities and skills.
