FEUP researcher receives half a million euro donation from the creator of lithium batteries

John Goodenough is a professor at the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin and is considered the "father" of lithium batteries. Maria Helena Braga is a researcher and professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and is leading research dedicated to a new generation of solid batteries, capable of storing much more energy than lithium-ion batteries, a development that has been received with great enthusiasm by the international scientific community.

This promising work was recognized by Professor John Goodenough, who donated half a million euros to boost the project developed by researcher Maria Helena Braga. This surprising donation will make it possible to strengthen the technical and human resources dedicated to this research and also raise awareness in the industry about a revolution that is waiting to happen in this area.

This revolutionary research could also leverage significant advances in other areas of the UT Austin Portugal program, such as Advanced Computing and Nanotechnology, since batteries can be used in various fields of application in scientific research. More information is available on the UT Austin Portugal program page.
