Portuguese researcher receives award from the American Geophysical Union
Fátima Abrantes, a researcher at the Center for Marine Sciences – University of Algarve (CCMAR) and the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), was honored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) with the “Ambassador Award.” The researcher is the national delegate to the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and co-delegate, together with the FCT, to JPI Oceans, a platform in the field of marine and maritime research.
This award annually recognizes five individuals who have made outstanding contributions in areas such as social impact, service to the terrestrial and space community, scientific leadership, and talent/career promotion. The award recognized the excellence in scientific research, education, communication, and outreach activities of researcher Fátima Abrantes, PhD in Marine Geology, who is dedicated to studying the history of the oceans in the geological past. She has authored 110 scientific articles and co-edited the book "Reconstructing Ocean History: A Window into the Future and The Climate of the Mediterranean Region."
The AGU will formally present the awards between December 10 and 13, 2021, at its fall meeting in New Orleans, LA.
