Scientific Computing Days 2021 take place this week
The 2021 edition of the Scientific Computing Conference will take place from October 19 to 21 at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (Campus 2 – School of Technology and Management). This event is promoted by the FCCN Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and consists of the annual meeting of the various communities of managers and users of advanced communication, computing, and IT service platforms.
Over three days, the goal is to create spaces for knowledge sharing and promote discussion about the emerging possibilities of digital services and scientific computing. The event is aimed at all those responsible for IT, library, documentation, and/or archiving services at higher education institutions, as well as institutional decision-makers and leaders in these areas and those responsible for the implementation of national science and research.
The program features more than 30 speakers and around 400 participants are expected to attend the meeting, which will certainly contribute to promoting collective discussion and knowledge sharing on all areas of FCCN's activities, ranging from connectivity, computing, collaboration, and knowledge to security.
This year, we highlight the Zapping session, where speakers can learn about some of FCCN's services in a single session, and the special session of the Polytechnic of Leiria entitled "Knowledge at the Service of Society." Keynote speakers at the meeting include Joaquim Menezes, founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IBEROMOLDES Group, Annarella Sanchez, director of the renowned Annarella – Academy of Dance Ballet and (Cuban School of Ballet), and João Curado Silva, head of AMA (Agency for Administrative Modernization) for the Data Science component in Public Administration projects. There will also be cultural moments, including a performance by dancer Inesa Markava, as part of the "Imaginary Library" project, to be held in the lobby of the José Saramago library.
The event is supported by around 20 sponsors and partners, including several leading companies in the information technology industry.
