2019 National Scientific Computing Conference at the University of the Azores
The Scientific Computing Conference kicked off yesterday, taking place outside mainland Portugal for the first time this year. Until May 8, the main meeting of managers and users of digital services provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) will be held in Ponta Delgada, at the University of the Azores, this year's host.
The Scientific Computing Days are organized under the National Digital Skills Initiative e.2030 – INCoDe.2030. This annual event aims to bring together researchers, teachers, technicians, and other users of the various digital technologies and support systems made available by FCT. Over the course of three days, the goal is to create spaces for knowledge sharing and promote discussion about the emerging possibilities of digital services and scientific computing.
As part of the National Digital Skills Initiative e.2030 – Portugal INCoDe.2030, FCT ensures the continuous and systematic modernization of scientific computing support services in Portugal. The services provided include the National Network for Advanced Computing and its connection to Europe and the world, open access repositories (RCAAP), the online scientific knowledge library (b-on), the infrastructure for distance learning (NAU), information management services, digital identity services, digital communication infrastructures (RCTS), digital collaboration tools (Colibri, Estúdio, etc.), digital preservation (Arquivo.pt), network security, among others. All these services will be discussed over the three days of the conference, in the form of presentations, plenary sessions, working meetings, and workshops.
The 2019 Scientific Computing Conference is supported by around 32 sponsors and partners, including several leading companies in the information technology industry, and is being organized jointly with the University of the Azores for this year's edition.
