This year's FCCN conference marked three decades of innovation
This edition coincided with the 30th anniversary of FCCN. The occasion was marked during the plenary session of the event, with a speech by Carlos Salema, Director of the Telecommunications Institute (IT) and first president of FCCN, and with the screening of a retrospective video of FCCN's mission over the last three decades, recalling the key moments in the organization's history. This was also the first edition of the conference to be attended by a member of the government. The Secretary of State for Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Maria Fernanda Rollo, traveled to the Algarve to present a paper dedicated to Open Science, entitled "Knowledge for all: Roadmap for a national Open Science policy." This plenary session also featured speeches by João Nuno Ferreira and Ester Serrão, representing FCCN and UAlg, respectively.
The turnout was positive. This year's conference attracted more than 260 participants from across the country, including IT technicians, librarians, researchers, and other members of the scientific community.
In total, there were three days of socializing and learning, with sessions dedicated to the wide range of services offered by FCCN in the areas of connectivity, collaboration, knowledge, computing, and security.
The conference also included some moments of leisure and relaxation, strengthening relationships and reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and teamwork within the research and higher education community.
The next edition of the FCCN Conference will be held in Vila Real, at UTAD – University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, in 2017.
