Portuguese Cancer League and FCT partner to support cancer research
The Portuguese League against Cancer (LPCC) has joined forces with FCT to fund the participation of the team from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), led by Manuel Coelho, in the European project NanoEFEct, which brings together four other partners from Austria, Norway and Germany.
1M€ is the overall funding awarded to the NanoEFEct consortium to study the mechanisms of early detection of colorectal carcinoma through optimized fluorescence endoscopy using nano particles. The funding of 180,000 euros awarded by the FCT to the FEUP team, led by Manuel Coelho, will be matched by 25,000 euros from the LPCC.
Signed at the beginning of 2014, the protocol between the two institutions already includes co-funding to support the participation of Portuguese research teams in projects selected under ERA-TRANSCAN, a European platform for translational cancer research, which includes 25 funding agencies from 19 Member States.
By making this commitment, the LPCC aims to contribute to research in this area by supporting projects aimed at developing new and potentially more effective interventions for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of cancer.
