Portuguese League Against Cancer and FCT partner to support cancer research
The Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) has joined forces with FCT to fund the participation of the team from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), led by Manuel Coelho, in the European NanoEFEct project, which brings together four other partners from Austria, Norway, and Germany.
€1 million is the total funding allocated to the NanoEFEct consortium for studying mechanisms for the early detection of colorectal cancer using fluorescence endoscopy optimized through nanoparticles. The €180,000 in funding for the FEUP team, led by Manuel Coelho, allocated by the FCT, will be matched by €25,000 from the LPCC.
Signed in early 2014, the agreement between the two institutions already provides for co-financing to support the participation of Portuguese research teams in projects selected under ERA-TRANSCAN, a European platform for translational cancer research, which includes 25 funding agencies from 19 Member States.
By making this commitment, LPCC aims to contribute to research in this area by supporting projects focused on developing new and potentially more effective interventions for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
