New EU strategy for adapting to climate change

The European Commission has opened a public consultation until June 30, 2020, with the aim of gathering different contributions and suggestions on the new European Union (EU) strategy for adapting to climate change.

The current EU climate change adaptation strategy has been assessed positively and shows that the strategy has achieved its objectives, with progress having been made on each of its eight individual actions. However, several areas for improvement were identified based on the experience and knowledge gained from its implementation.

The new adaptation strategy is one of the initiatives included in the Commission's Work Program for 2020 and will be designed to support the achievement of the objectives of EU climate legislation.
