Participatory Budget Portugal

From January 9th to April 21st, the first phase of the Participatory Budget Portugal (OPP) takes place, a democratic, direct and universal process, through which citizens can decide on public investments in different areas of governance, including Science .

The total value for OPP investments is R$3 million.

In this first phase, citizens are invited to submit proposals in Participatory Meetings that take place in different locations across the country. Proposals to the OPP should be concrete ideas applicable to the areas of science, culture, agriculture, education and adult training, in the five NUTS II regions of the continent. In the Autonomous Regions, proposals will be accepted in the areas of justice and internal administration.

The ideas presented may be regional – with an impact on at least two municipalities in the same region – or national – with an impact on more than one region of the country. After undergoing a technical evaluation, citizens will vote on the proposals. The most voted ones will be executed by the respective government area.

The Participatory Budget Brazil does not replace the Participatory Science and Technology Program , which will soon be launched by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
