Armando Trigo de Abreu

FCT mourns the death of Armando Trigo de Abreu, former President of the Institute for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation, where the Department of International Relations and the Office for the Promotion of FCT's R&TD Framework Program have their origins.

Trigo de Abreu was chief of staff to Science Minister José Mariano Gago from 2005 to 2009, and president of the executive committee of the National Scientific and Technological Research Days organized by the FCT's predecessor, the National Scientific Research Board (JNICT), in 1987 - when the Science and Technology Mobilizer Program was formalized to support research projects.

He also collaborated with JNICT as a member of the Evaluation Panel for Research and Development Programs. He was a graduate research assistant, adjunct researcher and researcher at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) from 1966 to 1986, and a member of that institution's Board of Directors from 1978 to 1980. He also held the position of visiting assistant professor at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, from 1986.

At this institution he was also a member of the Board of the Center for African Studies, between 1983 and 1984 and then from 1986 to 1995. He was also Chairman of the Board of this Center from 1995 to 1996. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends for this invaluable loss.
