From June 1 to 4, Portugal will once again participate in NAFSA, one of the world's largest events for the internationalization of higher education, held in the United States of America. This year, due to issues and restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will be held online, and Portugal will be present at the initiative through the participation of 12 national educational institutions, namely the Alcoitão School of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Instituto Superior Técnico (Técnico Lisboa), the ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management – University of Lisbon, ISCTE Business School / ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, ISMAI – University Institute of Maia / IPMAIA – Polytechnic Institute of Maia, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, IPL – Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the European University, IADE, IPAM, Lusófona University, and Lusíada University. It also counts on the participation of the Erasmus+ agency, the Study in Lisbon project of the Lisbon City Council, and SiPN – Study in Portugal Network of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD).

Portugal's participation in NAFSA 2021 is part of the Study & Research in Portugal project, of which FCT is one of the promoting entities, and is carried out through a joint partnership between FLAD, ERASMUS+, and Fulbright Portugal.

NAFSA is an association founded in 1948 with the primary objective of professional development for technicians linked to the higher education sector, with the aim of supporting and advising foreign students in the USA. This organization currently has 10,000 members worldwide, dedicated to the internationalization of education.
