Portuguese Participatory Budgeting
(available only in Portuguese)
From January 9 to April 21, the first phase of the Participatory Budget Portugal (OPP) will take place, a direct and universal democratic process through which citizens can decide on public investments in different areas of governance, including science.
The total amount for OPP investments is 3 million euros.
In this first phase, citizens are invited to submit proposals at Participatory Meetings taking place in different locations across the country. Proposals to the OPP should be concrete ideas applicable to the areas of science, culture, agriculture, education and adult training, in the five NUTS II areas of the mainland. In the Autonomous Regions, proposals will be accepted in the areas of justice and internal administration.
The ideas submitted can be regional - with an impact on at least two municipalities in the same region - or national - with an impact on more than one region of the country. After undergoing a technical assessment, citizens will vote on the proposals. The most voted proposals will be implemented by the respective government area.
