Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award in partnership with FCT

On the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, which was celebrated yesterday, May 22, and whose celebration aims to raise awareness of the need and importance of conserving biological diversity, the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation, in partnership with the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), announces the Call Applications for the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award for "Conservation, Restoration, and Monitoring of Biodiversity in Portugal," which will be open for applications from June 1 to June 30, 2022.

This award aims to recognize projects that promote the conservation, restoration, and monitoring of biodiversity developed in Portuguese territory by a national institution.

Institutions with projects aimed at the conservation, restoration, and monitoring of biodiversity in Portuguese territory are eligible to apply. The project must run for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 36 months, starting no later than December 31, 2022. Proposals must have a researcher who has held a PhD for at least five years as the person responsible for coordinating the work plan.

The Prize has a total value of €300,000, with a minimum amount of €50,000 to be awarded per project. The projects to be developed must aim to have a positive and recognized impact on the biodiversity of one or more regions of our country, and meet certain characteristics such as: scientific relevance and recognition; sustainability and monitoring of the proposed actions; and partnerships created with the funded project.

The Call aimed at private non-profit legal entities based in Portugal, higher education institutions and their R&D institutes and units, whether public or private, and individuals of recognized merit with tax residence in Portugal associated with institutions or legal entities with the characteristics mentioned above.
