2018 Health Marathon Awards support Research into Autoimmune Diseases and Allergies
Applications for the 2018 Health Marathon Awards, which aim to support Portuguese scientific research in different areas of biomedicine, are open until November 9. The awards for this 5th edition aim to select the two best scientific research projects in the field of Autoimmune Diseases and Allergies, which will each receive €20,000 in funding to continue their work.
Applications will be evaluated by an international jury proposed by FCT, consisting of scientists of recognized merit in the field of biomedicine. The evaluation and selection process is based on several criteria, including the scientific merit of the candidates and the impact that the proposed research work may have on the discovery of better treatments, cures, and prevention of Autoimmune Diseases and Allergies.
In the first four editions of the Awards, which received around 250 project applications in the areas of Cancer, Diabetes, Neurodegenerative Diseases, and Cardiovascular Diseases, 11 researchers were supported in the development of their work in these areas in Portugal.
The Health Marathon Awards are an initiative of the Health Marathon Association, a non-profit institution, and are supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The monetary value of the awards, totaling €40,000, comes from donations raised during the annual Health Marathon television show held in partnership with RTP, as well as other initiatives and support from civil society.
