President of FCT led Masterclass at the Higher Institute of Agronomy
“The science and technology system in Portugal: how funding of researchers, institutions, and projects impacted research and development” was the title of the Masterclass given by the President of FCT, Helena Pereira, on June 30, in the Assembly Hall of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) and online here.
This Masterclass was developed as part of the doctoral course units Forest Engineering Seminar and Scientific Motivation Seminars. The president of FCT addressed the topic of the impact of science funding on researchers, institutions, and projects.
Helena Pereira, who ends her term as president of FCT this month, also showed how science funding in Portugal, through FCT, has reached levels of operational excellence compared to similar institutions, both in terms of the predictability of Calls, the quality of the evaluation processes and their duration until the presentation of results, as well as in terms of administrative simplification and the dematerialization of processes.
Science in Portugal has grown significantly over the last 25 years, diversifying the areas of activity and sectors that contribute to the creation of knowledge. Funding from the FCT has been decisive for the growth and improvement of all indicators of knowledge production and scientific qualification.
This year, FCT celebrates 25 years of funding science in Portugal and marks the date with a series of events that will take place throughout the year in different cities, addressing topics of interest to the academic and scientific community. The full program of celebrations and the sessions that have already taken place can be found here.
