MIT Portugal Program selects 8 projects for funding

FCT has announced the result of the Call for Exploratory Research Projects under the MIT Portugal Program, concerning 2019, in which 33 applications were evaluated and 8 were recommended for funding. The total investment for the realization of these projects is 397,023.15 euros, and the maximum funding limit for each project is 50 thousand euros.

This Call aims to develop research activities between Portuguese universities and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), with a view to creating intelligent solutions in the various areas proposed to Call, in which projects are oriented towards scientific research in a holistic approach through integrated and multidisciplinary projects with a vision of evolution at scale. The selected projects in this edition are distributed in the following areas: Terrestrial Systems: from Oceans to Space - 3 projects; Digital Transformation in Industry - 3 projects; and Sustainable Cities - 2 projects.

This Call was held under the partnership agreement between FCT and MIT Portugal, integrated in the goPORTUGAL - Global Partnerships in Science and Technology program, promoted by FCT, and whose mission and objectives are to enhance the process of internationalization of scientific and technological research in Portugal, developing the creation of scientific and qualified employment and fostering the creation and growth of new science and technology based companies. The goPORTUGAL program includes partnerships with other leading foreign research institutions, such as Carnagie Mellon, UTAustin, Harvard Medical School, Imperial College London or Fraunhofer.
