Result of Call of IC&DT Projects in all scientific domains
FCT announced today the results of the Call for IC&DT Projects in all scientific fields, in which 312 projects were selected for funding. The list of projects recommended for funding and the summary of the results of the Call are available here.
This Call has a budget of 75 million euros, an investment supported by national funds through the FCT budget. This FCT funding through the Call for IC&DT Projects in all scientific fields contributes to the consolidation and strengthening of the National Scientific and Technological System, as a priority of national science and technology policy, across all scientific areas.
The 312 projects recommended for funding are distributed across the following scientific domains: Medical and Health Sciences - 17.6%, Engineering and Technology Sciences - 25.3%, Natural Sciences - 17.9%, Social Sciences - 12.2%, Exact Sciences - 11.2%, Agricultural Sciences - 8.7% and Humanities - 7.1%. The principal investigators leading the funded projects are mostly men, representing 56.7% of the total, and 13.5% are foreign researchers, of 20 nationalities, who work in research centers in Portugal and lead 42 of the selected projects.
Applications ran from January 30 to April 30 of this year. A total of 5,847 applications were submitted to the Call and a total of 3,317 applications were considered eligible, in accordance with the terms of Notice of the Call Call. The Call 's success rate was therefore 9.4% of eligible applications.
The applications were evaluated by 33 evaluation panels, according to the respective scientific area, with 503 foreign external evaluators taking part in the evaluation. Each proposal was evaluated and ranked according to the scientific merit and innovative nature of the project, the scientific merit of the research team, the feasibility of the work program and the contribution to the accumulation of knowledge and skills. In each panel, the proposals were ranked according to their merit and the selection was made in such a way as to guarantee a similar success rate in all the evaluation panels in terms of the volume of eligible funding requested.
The Call for IC&DT projects in all scientific areas is held annually and is part of the FCT's major structuring Calls , the timetable for which is established until 2022 and published on the website.
