Science and Technology Week 2018

This week, from November 19 to 25, Science and Technology Week 2018 is taking place. The week is marked by numerous activities promoted by scientific institutions, universities, schools, and museums, providing the public with opportunities for scientific observation and personal contact with experts from different fields of knowledge.

One of the areas in the spotlight is Space, with activities such as SpaceTalks, which on November 23 and 24 will bring the head of the Exomars 2020 Flight Operations team, Portuguese Tiago Loureiro, to Porto. His team is responsible for controlling and landing on Mars the spacecraft carrying the rover (robotic exploration vehicle) and the Roscosmos Surface Platform. On the 23rd, the ESA engineer will participate in a session at Escola do Cerco with high school students. On the 24th, he will participate in the "3, 2, 1... Takeoff!!" initiative as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Porto Planetarium, an event that will feature activities throughout the afternoon and for all ages.

Over the coming weeks and in December, more Space Talks will take place in different locations around the country:

– International Space Station, what is it? – Torres Vedras – November 24, 2018 – Torres Vedras Lab Center

Nights at the Observatory – Lisbon – November 24, 2018 – Calouste Gulbenkian Planetarium

Conversations in Space – Coimbra – November 27, 2018 – Department of Physics, University of Coimbra
