Advanced Computing Portugal 2030 session - "Progress achieved and new challenges"
The Portugal INCoDe.2030 program is organizing an Advanced Computing session on October 23rd, as part of the expansion of the MACC - Minho Advanced Computing Centre, under the motto "Progress achieved and new challenges", where the advanced computing needs of the scientific and technological community will be discussed among current and potential future MACC users.
The Azurém Campus of the University of Minho, in Guimarães, will host this session, which aims to discuss various topics that will serve to guide the management of the MACC and to provide advanced computing services that better serve Portuguese research groups and companies. The FCT/MACC- Minho Advanced Computing Center installation (2018), the level of use of the 1st "BOB" supercomputer cluster since 2019, the progress made in Portugal's participation in the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking initiative and the status of the installation of the Deucalion petascale machine for 2021 are the topics on the agenda.
The session, which will feature opening remarks from the rector of the University of Minho, Rui Vieira de Castro, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor (via videoconference), will have a national and international panel that includes, among others, the general coordinator of the INCoDe.2030 program and the National Computing Strategy, Nuno Feixa Rodrigues, and the deputy director-general of DG Connect of the European Commission, Khalil Rouhana.
This session takes place a month after the 1st edition of the Call for Advanced Computing Projects, the first Call for the provision of computing resources with around 27 million hours on national platforms included in the National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA), which received more than 130 applications and in which BOB, the supercomputer operated by the Minho Advanced Computing Center, was the platform most requested by applicants.
