UK Research and Innovation and Science Europe promote conference on the climate crisis

On November 10, UK Research and Innovation and Science Europe are promoting an online initiative under the theme Empowering policy makers with informed scientific knowledge to address the climate crisis: What can we learn from the COVID-19 response?, which is taking place on the sidelines of the 26thUnited Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which took place on November 1 and 2 in Glasgow.

This initiative seeks to build on the momentum created by COP26 to bring together an international panel of senior government officials and relevant members of the international scientific community to discuss how the knowledge gained from the COVID-19 pandemic can help tackle the climate crisis. Another focus is on empowering policymakers, through scientific advice, to address the challenge of climate change.

This initiative also aims to highlight the importance of international collaboration and the opportunity to draw on local, regional, national, and international experience and knowledge to resolve crises, such as the climate crisis. The role of global cooperation between the scientific community and policy makers, and how research and innovation can effectively contribute to decision-making on climate change, will be other topics under discussion. Participants will also discuss how best to mobilize scientific communities around the world to respond to climate change.

The event will feature the participation of the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, on the panel of speakers.
