UK Research and Innovation and Science Europe hold conference on climate crisis

On November 10, UK Research and Innovation and Science Europe are promoting an online initiative entitled Empowering policy makers with informed scientific knowledge to address the climate crisis: What can we learn from the COVID-19 response?, which is taking place on the sidelines of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which took place on November 1 and 2 in Glasgow.
This initiative seeks to take advantage of the path that emerged with COP26 to bring together an international panel of senior government officials and relevant members of the international scientific community to discuss how the knowledge gained from the COVID-19 pandemic can help tackle the climate crisis. Another of the topics in focus is the empowerment of political decision-makers, through scientific advice, to face the challenge of climate change.
This initiative also aims to highlight the relevance of international collaboration and the opportunity to draw on local, regional, national and international experiences and knowledge to solve crises such as climate change. The role of global cooperation between the scientific community and political decision-makers, and how research and innovation can effectively contribute to decision-making on climate change, will also be discussed. Participants will also debate how best to mobilize scientific communities around the world to respond to climate change.
The event will feature the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, on the panel of speakers.
