“Summer with Science” will fund 1,175 Studentships 87 training initiatives

The FCT will fund 87 training courses at 22 institutions and 1,175 Studentships research initiation and research, with a total investment of €2.4 million, as part of the special "Summer with Science" support program, promoted in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).

The "Summer with Science" initiative, which allowed proposals to be submitted from June 16 to 26, aims to encourage the development of "Summer Schools" at polytechnics and universities across the country with integrated R&D initiatives and face-to-face higher education.

This support aims to finance Studentships training plans to encourage face-to-face activities for students, teachers, and researchers in the development of innovative solutions associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (PEES) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing through higher qualifications for students.

The support is intended for students who meet the conditions to be research initiation or research fellows (Articles 5 and 6 of Studentships Regulation), as well as students who are recipients of school social action scholarships; and to higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, or business entities in partnership with research institutions.

This unprecedented program had a high level of participation, resulting in proposals being submitted by 31 institutions from across the country, for a total of 294 actions, involving 3,251 Studentships.
