Legal Framework

The FCT began operations in August 1997, succeeding the National Board for Scientific and Technological Research (JNICT). Since March 1, 2012, the FCT has succeeded UMIC – Agency for the Knowledge Society, I.P. in its responsibility for coordinating public policies for the Information Society in Portugal. On October 1, 2013, FCT assumed the duties and powers of the Foundation for National Scientific Computing (FCCN).
