14th edition of "The State of the Union": reflection on the most pressing issues on the European agenda

14th edition of "The State of the Union"

The 14th edition of The State of the Union will take place in Florence from May 23 to 25. World leaders and experts from various sectors, students, policy-makers and journalists will gather at the European University Institute to reflect on the most pressing issues on the European agenda.

The event features two days of conferences, followed by an Open Day celebrating European art and culture. This year, the conference's central themes focus on democracy and the rule of law, the digital and ecological transition and the future enlargements of the European Union, which will play a crucial role in the run-up to the European elections in June 2024. The President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will be one of the speakers on the first day.

The State of the Union Conference, created in 2011, is a privileged platform for publicizing the research carried out at the European University Institute. Portugal joined the European University Institute in 1989 with the signing of the Convention that created the Institute. Under the Protocol signed in 2012 between the Foundation for Science and Technology and the Directorate General for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the FCT is scheduled to award four Studentships doctoral degrees to the European University Institute each year.

The Conference will be broadcast live - see the Program. Further information can be sent to SoU@eui.eu
