186 Research Units proposed for funding under Call
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has released the provisional results of its analysis of applications submitted under Call : National Investment for Strengthening Scientific Equipment in R&D Units. This is a new boost for the national research system, promoting the renovation, modernization, and digitization of the scientific infrastructure and equipment of R&D Units, with a budget of €50 million.
Of the 252 Research Units classified as "Excellent" and "Very Good," 204 applied for this equipment upgrade, with a total budget requested in the application of €352.4 million. After analysis by a technical committee of the FCT, the eligible amount was €279.8 million. The provisional results approve funding for 186 research units.
This Call to re-equip Scientific Research Units, including their digital transformation. The investment aims to support elements such as large scientific equipment, sets of scientific instruments, scientific archives and data, as well as other knowledge-based resources, computer and programming systems, communication networks that promote open digital access, and/or other essential infrastructure to stimulate excellence in Research and Innovation activities.
Call is aligned with the objectives of Component 5 – Capitalization and Business Innovation, and is fully funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the investment“RE-C05-i13 – Scientific Research Units,”with an allocation of €50 million.
Following the disclosure of provisional results, the Investigation Units now have the opportunity to present their case at a preliminary hearing of interested parties within the regulatory deadlines.
